SCENE FROM THE BORIS KARLOFF/BELA LUGOSI FILM THE BLACK CAT - TopicsExpress

SCENE FROM THE BORIS KARLOFF/BELA LUGOSI FILM THE BLACK CAT 1934. Should be seen for the crazy expressionistic art-set direction and helming by Edgar G. Ulmer if nothing else. But the film is a fairly compelling tale of Good versus Evil. Newlyweds Peter and Joan Alison (David Manners pictured, and Julie Bishop), are visiting Hungary when they become embroiled in the deadly duel of wills between Dr. Vitus Werdegast (Bela Lugosi) and Hjalmar Poelzig (Boris Karloff) an architect, war criminal and head of a Satanic cult! The movie is little more than an hour long, but it is a very twisted, irrational bit of cinema. The evil Karloffs castle (a former fort he is accused of betrayed to the Russians by Lugosi) sits on a mound of dynamite! There is-for this time-a lot of demented stuff on hand, and fans of horror cinema would be well advised to video it. In this scene, Manners scoffs at the existence of the supernatural, unaware of the clash of powers about him. I always loved Lugosis comeback. https://youtube/watch?v=3P2hdz8w5xg
