SCHATZ CLAIMS 23RD WIN OF THE YEAR IN WOO ACTION; KINSER SIXTH. BRADLEY WINS MMSA MAIN By: Chris Nunn A journey that began for the “King of the Outlaws” Steve Kinser back in the 1970’s, brought him back home to the Bloomington Speedway one last time on Friday night. The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars rolled into town for the first time after a two year absence. Kinser, a Bloomington native, has six career Outlaws wins at the track dating back to the inaugural running back in 1978. Kinser’s last win at Bloomington Speedway came back on October 8th, 1998. For the occasion tonight, a special “Kings Court” seating area was built, featuring exclusive access to a hospitality area with food and drink, tented seating, a meet and greet with Kinser, a commemorative ticket, and exclusive hillside seating access. Saying this was one of Bloomington Speedways biggest crowds would be an understatement. The hillsides and bleacher seating areas were overflowing, as were the parking lots. 38 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars along with 37 MMSA Mini Sprints made up the program. In World of Outlaws time trials, David Gravel of Watertown, CT broke the track record with a time of 9.304 seconds. The old track record was set back in April of 1999 (9.380) by Joey Saldana. Jac Haudenschild and Christopher Bell made up the front row for the 40 lap, $10,000 to win WoO Main event with Haudenschild leading lap one over Bell and Daryn Pittman. Donny Schatz moved to the outside of Pittman for fourth but couldn’t make the pass. Up front Bell looked to the outside for the lead on lap five. Bell immediately opened up a half straight lead over Haudenschild, while Pittman hounded Haudenschild for the runner up spot. The caution flew on lap seven for Greg Wilson who had spun on the backstretch. On the restart, Schatz got around Pittman for the third spot. Bell began to pull away once again, moving into lapped traffic on lap 11. Behind him, Schatz moved to the second spot around Haudenschild on lap 14. The caution flew for the second time on lap 14, as Hunter Scheurenberg slowed to a stop in turn one. Gary Taylor flipped on the restart, bringing out the red flag. The field spread out on the restart, with Bell up high and Schatz down low trying to reel him in. Bell bobbled on the top, allowing Schatz to close in to a car length. Bell got into a lapped car, allowing Schatz to take the lead away on lap 20. Schatz held a half straight lead with just 15 laps to go, as they battled through lapped traffic. Schatz was able to move around two lapped cars and put some distance between he and Bell. Pittman moved around Haudenschild for third on lap 28. Haudenschild took the spot back on lap 30, with Pittman moving back around on lap 31. While this was happening, Schatz held a half lap lead over the field. With the lead in hand for Schatz, he easily cruised to the win, his 23rd on the season over Bell, Pittman, Brad Sweet, and Haudenschild completing the top five. Steve Kinser in his final appearance at Bloomington Speedway finished in the sixth position. WoO Sprint heat race winners were Steve Kinser, Brad Sweet, Jac Haudenschild, and Christopher Bell. The WoO dash winner was Haudenschild. The B-Main went to Gravel. Justin Lewis and Andy Bradley made up the front row for the MMSA Mini Sprint feature with the red flag coming out immediately for the flipped car of Nick Daugherty. Bradley led lap one on the restart ahead of Lewis. Lynn Ambrose took the third spot as the red flag flew once again on lap two for Cory Clay who flipped in turn four. Chase Briscoe took third away from Ambrose before the caution flew once again, this time on lap three. Briscoe would break, bringing out the caution on the restart. A three way battle broke out for the lead on the lap four restart between Bradley, Lewis, and Drew Dorsett. Lewis took the lead on lap ten, with Bradley taking it back on lap 11. Dorsett then took the second spot away from Lewis on lap 13, and set his sights on Bradley up front. With five to go, Dorsett closed in on the rear end of Bradley. With one lap to go, Bradley was able to hold on to the bottom groove to hold off Dorsett for the win. Lynn Ambrose, Michael Roehling, and Cody Trammell completed the top five. MMSA Mini Sprint heat winners were Chase Briscoe, Scotty Bradley, Anthony Haas, and Drew Dorsett. Howard McCormick won the B-Main. This concludes the 2014 Racing Season, the 2015 Season will bring a brand new class to the speedway, as the RaceSaver 305 Winged Sprints will be racing all year long.
