Previous San Jose All-Stars include Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey, Gary Brown and Brandon Belt. Okert has been one of the best relievers in the entire California League during the first half of the season. Selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2012 draft from the University of Oklahoma, he boasts a 1.17 ERA in 28 appearances with a league-leading 17 saves in 17 opportunities. Over 30.2 innings the left-hander has 49 strikeouts, while only issuing 11 walks. Okert also leads the league with 24 games finished. This is well-deserved recognition for Steven, said Lenn Sakata, Manager of the San Jose Giants. He started off the season as our setup man and earned the right to become our closer. His consistency, grit, toughness and ability to battle, even when he doesnt have his best stuff, put him in the same category as many of the outstanding relief arms that have come through San Jose. The 2014 All-Star Game will be the 18th contest between the California and Carolina Leagues. The Carolina League has won the last two contests between the squads as they lead the all-time series with a record of 8-6-2. Last years game was held at Municipal Stadium in front of a San Jose Giants record crowd. This years event will be hosted by the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday, June 17.
