SCHIZOPHRENIA, THE KU KLUX KLAN AND PINEAPPLE FOOTBALL Dee: I wonder how Debras doin? Vicki: I dont know, but I miss her. She was a good neighbor. Dee: Yeah, but she was scared of the neighborhood. Thats why shes livin on the other side of town now. Vicki: She was scared of the neighborhood? Why? Dee: Cause she thought the people that used to live in your house were scary. She was afraid of em cause one night they was outside throwin a pineapple around. Vicki: She was afraid of them because they were throwing a pineapple? Dee: Yeah, cause thats not normal. Vicki: Well, Ill agree that playing football with a pineapple isnt commonplace, but I wouldnt exactly call it scary unless it was being thrown at me. Dee: I dont think they was playin football. I think they was playin basketball. Vicki: But pineapples dont bounce. Dee: Thats probly why they wasnt very good at it ... but sometimes theyd throw oranges and grapefruits, too. Vicki: Oh, well, THAT changes things! Dee: One mornin she came out and there was a whole bunch of grapefruits in the street and it scared her so bad that she called the police. Vicki: Really? Because of grapefruit in the street? Dee: Yeah, thats why she thought they were Klu Kluxers tryin to scare her out of the neighborhood. Vicki: I have to admit that I dont have a lot of experience with the Ku Klux Klan, but I dont think they use grapefruit as a calling card. The last I heard, they left burning crosses. Dee: Well, she thought they was tellin her to move. Vicki: But, why? Half of our neighbors are black. Why would they have singled Debra out? Dee: I dont know, but I guess if you got grapefruit-throwin Kluxers livin next door, you dont ask a lot of questions. Vicki: I guess not. Dee: But I dont think they was Kluxers. I think they was just crazy. Somebody told me that one of the people that used to live in your house had Sorocotic Fritzomania. Vicki: WHAT? Dee: Thats one of those sorocotic diseases that makes ya think that people followin ya and tellin you to do things. Vicki: Do you mean schizophrenia?
