SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCED! THE SCOTT AND MARLA BOYER HUMANE SCHOLARSHIP IN THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES AT UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY The Scott and Marla Boyer Humane Scholarship assists USU students in achieving their dream of working in the service of animals. The award consists of tuition assistance in the amount of $1,500. Actions meriting the award include past and/or present performance on behalf of animals, demonstration of a humane attitude, and a clear understanding of humane ethics. Significant consideration will be given to students who volunteer or are employed at the Cache Humane Society or other animal protection organization. A passive liking for animals or the mere desire to enter an animal care field does not justify the award nor does animal conservation for the purpose of maintaining hunting stocks. Applications should include: • A written letter with a narrative of the students achievements in animal protection, as well as a discussion of his or her attitude toward animals. • Documentation of the activities cited and a description of future plans for humane work are required. • A letter of reference from a supervisor or mentor describing your performance on behalf of animals. Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria: 1. Be pursuing a degree at USU within the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences in any discipline. 2. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors, or seniors in rank. Graduate students may be considered based on the application pool. 3. A one page written letter describing the student’s achievements in animal protection and attitude towards animals as cited in paragraph 3.
