SCHOOL PARENTS OUTRAGED: What the school board heard:: Grimsley HS and Kiser MS have no text books for many classes, and no copy paper to make handouts. Some classes have text books that can only be used in school. Teachers advise kids to print lessons off of web sites....at home....if you have web access. School personnel say Common Core standards have left schools with no acceptable curriculums in some subjects, including math. The state once replaced text books every 5 years, but has not done so for 12+ years now. The NC Race to the Top $400 million federal grant (provided as a reward for accepted Common Core) was used to pay for other things. Part was used to buy iPads for middle schools, but they were all taken back when many were broken in the first few months. Many parents arrived at the last school board meeting with similar stories about other county schools, and they were angry.... (Rhino Times)
