SCOT Gardiner has been given permission to speak to Rangers with a view to becoming the club’s new chief executive. Gardiner is currently the man in charge at Dens Park, but Dundee’s American owners have given the former Rangers employee permission to enter talks over the Ibrox job. Gardiner is reportedly set for meetings with chairman David Somers and the club’s two remaining directors, Brian Stockbridge and James Easdale. The Dundee chief executive’s appointment would not be welcomed by the shareholders’ group led by Jim McColl and Paul Murray, who have already lined up former Liverpool CEO Christian Purslow to act as chief executive. McColl and Murray are set to make a bid for control of the League One leaders at next month’s annual general meeting. The AGM was due to take place in November, but was delayed after a Court of Session battle over a planned vote to replace the board. /robert
