SCRAPBOOK TRADITIONS, INC. Our Slogan has always been “Everyone has a story to tell...Let Us Help You Tell Yours!” I would like a minute to share a story with you...a very special story...the story of Jackie Scott. When I count my blessings as we approach Thanksgiving this year, I always have Jackie on my “thankful list”! I met Jackie when she came to me in my basement store in 1999 with a request for help scrapping her life for her only child, Johnnie. Jackie had leukemia and wanted to do the scrapbooks for Johnnie as a gift for Christmas. (There IS no better gift than a scrapbook!) We started in August and went through the 28 huge boxes we hand trucked into my store. We began by putting everything into date order and then made the documents archival and safe for the scrapbooks. I then planned and scrapbooked over 950 pages for her over the next 4 months. As you can imagine, we became very close and grew to love each other a great deal! I scrapped over 100 years of her family history for her! I watched her grow up, saw her first love, saw her first and only child, watched him grow up, saw his children arrive, saw THEM grow up, shared their tears and triumphs, their tragedies, battles and victories!! Jackie was a wonderful lady who wrote beautifully so I scrapped em and she journaled em! We ate peanut butter crackers, talked, and laughed and cried and even did the SCRAPBOOK BOOGIE DANCE when we finished the scrapbooks right in the middle of my store! She purchased a safe and placed the precious albums in it. She then drove the treasures to Johnnie in Maryland for Christmas 1999. Jackie said it was THE best gift she had ever given him and they spent hours crying, laughing and reminiscing that most wonderful and special Christmas! Jackies husband died in May of 2000 and Jackie moved away to live with her son Johnnie but we still kept in touch! I missed her.....she was such a joy! A strong willed, warm and loving Christian woman who was a blessing to all who knew her! In early 2001, I had not heard from her in a while and called to check on her. I left a message for her to call and her son Johnnie returned my call. Jackie had passed away February 23rd 2001 and he did not know how to contact me. He told me the funeral was held in Winston Salem and he had brought the scrapbooks with him and displayed them there. He said he saw people he had not seen since he was 7 years old and some whom he had no memory of meeting at all as they paid their final respects to his Mom......AND THEY WERE IN THE SCRAPBOOKS! He said that everyone stayed for hours going through the scrapbooks, laughing, crying, and reliving the special memories the books brought back. Johnnie thanked me for the most special gift anyone had ever given! He said those albums were the way he wanted his Mom remembered and that he would treasure the memories and the books always! Johnnie said everyone was amazed at the recorded history, time and effort that went into the albums and could tell they were all done with a great deal of care and love....and so I tell you again that THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO! WE ALL HAVE A STORY TO TELL AND IT NEEDS TO BE TOLD! I was and continue to be so humbled by his words! We are the historians of our families! What if Jackie had never taken the time to document and preserve Johnnies family history? Had the albums not been completed, she would have taken those precious memories to her grave. He would have been left without Jackie, his family history AND more importantly, the warm hug he feels every time he opens the albums! Our scrapbooks are PRICELESS and PRECIOUS! I am more determined than ever to keep my precious memories safe and ready for the day my children say their last goodbyes to me. My children, and grandchildren will feel the warm loving embrace every time a page is turned....and yours can also! Protect your memories and stories! Keep your scrapbooks books up to date! IT IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY PENNY AND HOUR YOU SPEND WORKING ON THESE WORKS OF “Heart”! HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?? Everyone Has A Story To Tell...Let Us Help You Tell Yours!
