SCRIPT YORKSHIRE BRANCH NEWS: S Yorks branches include Sheffield, York, Bradford, Hull. SHEFFIELD BRANCH Hello! As you may have heard, were in the process of opening up a Sheffield-based branch of Script Yorkshire. Poets, novelists, short story writers... All of them have their own groups in Sheffield - its about time we had one for scriptwriters too! So, the plans for the group are twofold: 1) A monthly meeting, comprising feedback sessions, writing workshops, talks... essentially a place where we can congregate, drink tea, share work, share ideas, discuss, write, see plays, and generally just spur each other on. 2) Scratch nights. The vision is this: a monthly show consisting of 6-8 script-in-hand 10min performances (or fewer and longer works depending on what the situation calls for) written by Script Yorkshire members - the entry criteria simply being: Does your writing show potential? And: Are you up for it? So all we really need now, is you! If this sounds like something youre interested in, itd be really great if you could let me know (via my personal email: ctimps@hotmail - NOT through SYChat!) - along with giving us an idea of what you as a writer would want from the group. BRADFORD BRANCH / SNOWGOOSE WRITING GROUP The Snowgoose Theatre Writing Group (Bradford Branch of Script Yorkshire) meets every second or third Monday at the Ring of Bells Pub, Shipley. YSCP Casting Call York Mystery Plays 2014 13 & 20 July yorkmysteryplays.co.uk/ York Settlement Community Players present for the Company of Cordwainers Christ before Annas and Caiaphas. A middle eastern country dominated by a religious faction and occupied by a foreign power. A land led by self-interested priests jostling each other for control, its people ruled by an ill-disciplined militia. A man claiming to be the Son of God and gathering a devoted following is arrested in the middle of the night. A disciple is exposed and taunted. Betrayal. A hasty trial in an improvised court. A prisoner tortured before being rendered to the occupying power... YSCP are looking for a cast of ten to present this piece of street theatre along with a team of soldiers to keep the crowd in order (and push the wagon!). Casting will be largely gender blind and the emphasis will be on presenting the piece in a way that highlights its modern relevance as well as its traditional past as one of Yorks Mystery plays. Auditions will be held on Sunday 13 April in Clementhorpe Community Centre from 2 - 5 pm. The format will be a reading of the play followed by active group and solo work on the text. Rehearsals will be during June and early July with performances on two Sundays - 13 and 20 July. If youre interested in being part of this production, come along to the auditions. If you want more information or just to register your interest, contact the director, Graham Sanderson ([email protected]). If you wont be able to attend the audition on Sunday 13 April but would like to audition separately, let Graham know. Auditions are open to all - regardless of previous experience.
