SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: COME TO CHRIST IN FAITH Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned (contemned/ despised). Song of Solomon 8:7 A father’s sleep in the morning hours was disturbed by a soft voice calling, “Daddy, come quickly, please, at once!” He gets up and finds his four-year-old daughter standing stark naked on the bathroom scales. “Daddy, look how much I cost!” The child’s idea makes her father smile. As though love dependent on weight! But the child persisted in her demand: “How much do I cost?” and she made sure that her father read the scales. “Two stones,” he answered. Then he took his darling child in his arms round his neck. Had she any idea what she was really worth to him? What a foolish idea to imagine that love can be paid for! “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship (to be burnt) that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing” 1 Corinthians 13:3. So much that is done to give the appearance of love is in fact love of oneself. Self-importance is often the motivation. Maybe you imagine you have done your best; but that does not make you acceptable to God. If you really want to know what love costs, you should consider the price that God’s love paid to redeem sinners. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8. The price that God paid was “the precious blood of Christ” 1 Peter 1:19. That is what God was prepared to pay to save you and draw you unto His heart. Shouldn’t such love cause you to come to Him in faith? Have a glorious day as you come to Christ Jesus in faith
