SDA to get 50 KW SPP this year, 834 solar lanterns distributed Feroz inaugurates 7.50 KW SPP at CIC Kangan KANGAN, SEPTEMBER 27: Minister of State for Science Technology and Information Technology, Feroz Ahmad Khan today inaugurated 7.50 KW Solar Power Plant (SPP)here today completed at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh. The plant will ensure round the clock power supply to the Community Information Centre (CIC) and BDO office. Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Science and Technology, Muzaffer Malik besides senior officers from JKEDA, Science Technology, Rural and Revenue departments were present on the occasion. Addressing after inaugurating the plant, the Minister said that solar lighting facility have been provided to a large number of families of the constituency, adding that the facility would also be extended to all other families residing in un-electrified villages of the constituency including Gujjars and Bakerwals. He said the concerned agency has been asked to frame a detailed project report after conducting survey of these areas so that a comprehensive proposal is sent to the Centre Government for approval and funding. While visiting CIC Centre, the Minister was informed that short and long term computer courses are being run in the CIC while Centre has imparted training to 315 students so far in different courses. The Minister was told that with installation of solar power plant the Centre will be able to complete the courses in fixed time thereby accommodating more students for training. Feroz Khan asked people to come forward and take benefit of the schemes being run by Science and Technology department. He said department has introduced a scheme for exploring hidden talent of the students under which scholarships is being provided to the students who want to go out of State for higher studies and research in field of science and technology. He said Chief Minister is keen to extend the benefit of the scheme to the students living in hilly and far flung areas and asked the public representatives to play their role in this regard. The Minister said the Government has planned to install solar power plants in all health and educational institutions of the State in order to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of the energy needs. He said department has introduced water heaters for the Valley populace in view of diminishing power generation during winter months and asked the people to avail this facility. Earlier, while giving the details of the programme launched by ST department, the CEO said that 50 KW Solar Plant is proposed to be installed during current year to give power supply to the infrastructures created by Sonamarg Development Authority at Sonamarg while 834 solar lanterns have been distributed among the people of the constituency including nomadic families and those living in hilly areas of the constituency.
