SDPP Announces Closure of Foot Care Service Surrey Disabled - TopicsExpress

SDPP Announces Closure of Foot Care Service Surrey Disabled People’s Partnership (SDPP) has reluctantly taken the decision to close its foot care service having been unable in secure much needed funding. The subsidised foot care service was set up by the charity in 2006 to provide a home visiting service that was affordable and accessible to some of the most vulnerable and isolated members of our community. At the time, the local NHS had taken the decision to restrict access to the free podiatry service and this left many vulnerable people without access to basic foot care, including nail cutting. Commenting on the closure, Clive Wood, Chief Executive of SDPP said “We are extremely disappointed that we will have to close the foot care service. Over 500 disabled and older people across Surrey use the service and we know how valued it has been”. Clive went on to say “We have made many attempts to secure funding from a range of benefactors, including statutory and charitable funders in the last few years. Although we have been fortunate to secure some funding, this has not been sufficient in preventing the service running at a significant loss for the last two years”. SDPP have written to all their foot care customers to inform them that the service will close from January 31st 2015. In the letter, the charity has offered to help customers to try and find an alternative foot care service in their area. The current SDPP Foot Care Practitioners will be setting up an independent service in many areas of Surrey
