However, investigations have revealed that the fire and brimstone preacher could have used the money given for the construction of the church for purposes other than what the money was meant for. In a phone call yesterday, the Reverend Chakwera could not deny nor admit knowledge of the money but Banthu Times have documentation which places him in a questionable spot. “I am aware about the money from America to build a church in the capital city and right now all members have been raising funds for years but it is not known what exatcly happened to the money, right now our Senior Reverend is out of the country so we can not commnent further on this.” said one Junior Reverend who has been working with Chakwera for over ten years. Investigations, however, show that Dr Chakwera could have flouted church regulations when he used church money solicited for the construction of church to globe trotting on one day seminars and some of themhe was not invited to attend . Documentation shows that: • Dr Chakwera used church money to fly all over the world without accoutability and without justification as to whether such trips were far more important than building a church in Lilongwe for his flock who are now abandoneed worshipping in a temporary tent. • Dr Chakwera used church money to buy an expensive mercedes benz and it is not clear as to why the car has not been returned to Assemblies of God after he abandoned the work of God. • Most of his expensive trips world wide were not sanctioned by the Assemblies of God Church and the church accounts personell were given the “restricted” role of coordinating and raising payment vouchers subsequently signed by Dr Chakwera. • Questions abound also on how Dr Chakwera convinced the Malawi Governement to award Assemblies of God a TV Licence while he has failed to make the television project operational, did he elaborate fully about funding ? If there was funding for the television where has the money gone to leave the church in the middle of the crisis? These further raise questions on Chakwera’s dealongs. Further investigations show that Reverend Chakwera has not presented an account activity report officially to Assemblies of God Church Senior members when he quit God’s calling work to join politics. Banthu Times investigations also show that Chakwera has gagged church members with threats of lawsuits and this has prevented church members from coming out in the open to vent their fury in how their once trusted shephard has abandoned them in the middle of nowhere and just with tents as worshipping place in the capital city Lilongwe. Folowers of Chakwera has pleaded innocence on his behalf and believe the once man of God cannot abuse public funds because he is a man who fears God but investigations continue.
