Equal Opportunity Employer Position: Winter Sports Staff ________________________________________________________________________ Opening Date: : November 1, 2013 Closing Date: December 6, 2013 Salary: $7.25/hr. Department: Parks Location: St. Patrick’s & Ferrettie-Baugo Creek County Parks Description: This position is part-time, seasonal, non-exempt and is covered under the Saint Joseph County Employee Policy Manual. Hours: Sat., Sun. holidays, evenings Shift Times: 10:45am-5:15pm and/or 5:30pm-10:15pm Extensive weekend, holiday and night work required. Tube hill: Prepare innertubing warming room, tube storage area and concession area for tubing operations. Serve as safety observers to ensure that patrons are following safety guidelines. Monitor snow conditions on tubing hill for safe operations. Make sure that work areas and restrooms are clean and have adequate supplies. Sell concession items. Count and reconcile monies received for concession sales and complete required paperwork. Communicate with park ranger or supervisor regarding program, problems and supply needs. Cross-country ski rental: Prepare ski rental room, warming room and ski storage area for rental operations. Collect fees for ski rentals, daily trail passes and season trail passes. Assist renters in proper fit of ski boots, ski poles and skis. Provide basic instruction on cross-country skiing. Make sure that work area is clean and has adequate supplies. Count and reconcile monies received for ski rentals and sales of daily and season ski trail passes and complete required paperwork. Communicate with park ranger or supervisor regarding program, problems and supply needs. Snowshoe rental: Prepare snowshoe rental room, warming room, concession area and snowshoe storage area for rental operations. Collect fees for snowshoe rental and sell concession items and maintain inventory. Count and reconcile monies received for snowshoe rentals and concession sales and complete required paperwork. Assist renters with proper fit for snowshoes. Provide basic instruction on snowshoeing. Make sure that work area is clean and has adequate supplies. Communicate with park ranger or supervisor regarding program, problems and supply needs. Gatehouse attendant: Serve as front line person in dealing with visitors. Answer questions from visitors regarding location of shelters, activities in the park and fees associated with programs or activities. Collect gate entry fees, sell annual gate entry passes, cross-country daily ski trail passes and innertubing tickets. The employee must be physically able to: operate a cash register, answer telephone, lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or more; perform duties requiring physical exertion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus. Ability to operate a cash register is preferred. Ability to count money and give correct change. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations at all social and economic levels. Adequate transportation to commute to and from work site. Ability to speak, read and understand Spanish is recommended. First aid and CPR training and certification are recommended. Qualifications: Employee must be at least 15 years of age and be enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma or GED.
