SEAVIEW HOTEL: STATEMENT BY THE PRINCIPAL OF ST PATRICKS COLLEGE MEDIA STATEMENT St. Patricks College Shorncliffe confirms that it was approached earlier this year by representatives of the current owners of the Seaview Hotel. Those discussions identified that the freehold land, buildings and business of the hotel was for sale. The College responded that it had no interest in purchasing the hotel as a going concern and that remains the Colleges position. Subsequently the College was advised that the hotel business (including the gaming and liquor licences), was being sold and that the owner was seeking to sell separately the freehold title as a standalone entity. The decision to close the hotel is not something that was initiated by St. Patricks College. The College undertook a careful review of its possible interest and entered negotiations with t he current owner around a potential purchase of the land and buildings. Those discussions were premised on the Colleges aim to secure long term access to improved infrastructure and parking at the College. Edmund Rice Education Australia, the owner and operator of the College, has since entered a contract to purchase the land and buildings and will take vacant possession of the site upon completion of that contract sometime in the early part of 2015. The College will initially utilise the building for non-teaching purposes and will also make use of existing car parking areas that form part of the site. This is consistent with the existing zoning uses that are attached to the site. The College intends to make formal application to the Brisbane City Council for a material change of use to reflect a change from its current use to educational purposes. The College understands that the current owner is in the process of completing the sale of related business matters prior to closing the hotel later this year.
