Hardenia, Irfan Engineer, Dhirendra Panda, Mohammad Arif. -- From the Editor’s Desk The nature of communal violence has been constantly changing. Lately Muzzafarnagar was orchestrated around the issue of ‘Love Jihad’ and was massive in scale. In Delhi as elections are close on the horizon communal forces will ensure the polarization to get an electoral benefit. So the newer issues have been invented and low intensity violence took place. The scattered violence against Christian community is persisting and the intimidation of Pastors and missionaries is going in various places, Bastar District of Chattisgarh being in the news for banning the entry of Pastor in to the district. With Modi Sarkar in the saddle of power; in the Government with simple majority, the Hindutvization of culture and education is on with full intensity. The scientific temper is the major victim with the new Sarkar, with Modi and company claiming the existence of Genetic Engineering, plastic surgery in the ancient culture, the evidence for this is culled out from the mythology, Elephant head on human body (Lord Ganesh), birth of Karn from ear, and birth of Kauravas from the mass delivered by Gandhari. The level of public discourse was never so distorted; how far will this go only times will tell. Sabrang and Hillele’s valuable initiative is of great benefit to the secular movement, this month we carry the interview of Mahesh Bhatt on this venture. This year is also the 25th Anniversary of the horrific Bhagalpur violence. A program has been organized in Bhagalpur and we are carrying an article on the history and anatomy of this violence.
