SECURITY: KEBBI GETS ‘CIVILIAN JTF’ Residents of Aliero quarters in Birnin Kebbi, have introduced the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to work alongside the vigilante group in the area and other parts of the state to tackle insecurity. Daily Trust gathered that the area and other parts of Birnin Kebbi and Jega town have recorded cases of killings and armed robbery attacks. One of the civilian volunteers, Alhaji Issa Mohammed Zuru, said the high rate of attacks forced the people to borrow a leaf from Borno State, to complement security agents in curtailing the trend. “Almost on a daily basis, Aliero quarters which is very close to the police headquarters and office of the State Security Service (SSS) is attacked by hoodlums. The situation is alarming and the security agencies are not doing enough to secure the area. We, therefore, invited and organized youths to assist. Everybody is living in fear, we cannot even stay outside up to 10pm for fear of attack,” he said. Leader of the CJTF, Alhassan Umar Bunza, said they are ready to fish out criminals. “Apart from this area, if you go to Bayan Kara along Eastern bye pass, Gwadangwaji and Badariya, people living in those areas sleep with one of their eyes open and are always staying indoors,” he said. Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Ome, when contacted on phone after several efforts to see him in his office failed, said, “Please, right now I am busy with something. The president is coming. We are having a meeting now, I will see you later”.
