SECURITY,MOMBASA CLERIC URGES GOVERNMENT TO RESTORE PEOPLE’S CONFIDENCE ON SECURITY AGENCIES IN WAR ON CRIME AND TERROR, BACKS NKAISSERI APPOINTMENT Head of the Anglican Church of Kenya(ACK) Mombasa diocese Bishop Julius Kalu has urged the national government to put its best foot forward in improving the state of security in the country which he termed as dismal as the year ends. Bishop Kalu further said that Kenyans are currently experiencing fears due to the many incident of runaway crime in urban areas as well the terrorist attacks which has wrought havoc across the country. Bishop Kalu made this statement as he addressed parishioners at the ACK church in Mombasa, today said that it is the high time the security situation changes as he noted that business and people’s way of life had been affected adversely by crime and terrorism. He further urged the government to make changes within its security strategy, noting that businesses within the coastal city had plummeted due to insecurity. He said that Kenyans should however not be cowed into submitting to the fears of criminals and terrorists and called on the nation to be more prayerful. “In light of the Kapedo attacks, the two Mandera attacks and the Mpeketoni attacks in which hundreds of innocent Kenyans lost their lives, something has to be done ,” the cleric said. He welcomed the appointment of former retired Major General Joseph Nkaisseri and out-going Kajiado Central Constituency MP as the new Cabinet Secretary for Interior and urged the new appointee to restore the people’s confidence in security agents. He also thanked the President for making the appointment and urged Kenyans to back the leadership in its efforts to combat crime and terror, which he said is rearing its ugly head in the country. “Terrorism is a vice that threatens to divide Kenyans along religious lines, and it should not be allowed to take root within the country,” he said, urging Kenyans to remain united regardless of religious affiliation or creed. He however maintained that the country needs to be more prayerful even after the festive season.
