SEED POWER: THE POWER TO GET WEALTH PART 1 Pastor Jack Siame But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. ----- Deuteronomy 8:18 THE POWER TO GET (AQUIRE AND INCREASE) WEALTH Deuteronomy 8:18 shows us that God is the one who gives us the power to get wealth, when He said this to the children of Israel He didn’t explain it in detail, implying they knew what it was; this power must have been revealed someone prior to this time. In Genesis 6 we find a man by the name of Noah, he walked with God (received revelations of God and walked in them). Noah gave an offering that made God reverse the curse that was placed on the ground as a result of Adam’s sin: “…cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life” (Gen 3:17). The curse caused man to be poor and unfruitful, but Noah had the revelation of how to reverse it and be fruitful: “And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. AND THE LORD SMELLED A SWEET SAVOUR; AND THE LORD SAID IN HIS HEART, I WILL NOT AGAIN CURSE THE GROUND ANY MORE FOR MANS SAKE...” (Gen 6:20-21) If Adam had the same revelation he’d have reversed it in his time, BUT his ignorance kept him in unfruitfulness and struggle. You don’t need to struggle when there is a way out. In verse 22 of Genesis 6, God reveals to Noah a more powerful principle: seed power; the power to get (acquire and increase) wealth. He said to Him, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest…shall not cease.” (Gen 8:22) In Genesis 26, Isaac found himself in a famine which was greater than what his father experienced, what was his natural response? Run to Egypt (a natural – human place of refuge and refreshing) like his father did (Gen 12:10) but God stopped him, why? When He gives you seed, it doesn’t matter where you are. Like Isaac, there are many Christians who want to run to America or any well to do country outside Africa, because of the economic crisis on the continent, you don’t need to do that. The same word God said to Isaac, He is saying to you today, “…Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of” (Gen 26:2). Did the man die in the famine? No! You will not die either. The Bible says that those who act on the word of God, “… shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. “ (Psalms 37:19). It doesn’t matter what happens around you, what matters is who you are and what you have, Isaac was a seed of Abraham and had seed to sow – he applied the principle “Then Isaac SOWED in that land, and RECEIVED IN THE SAME YEAR AN HUNDREDFOLD: AND THE LORD BLESSED HIM. And THE MAN WAXED GREAT, AND WENT FORWARD, and GREW UNTIL HE BECAME VERY GREAT: For HE HAD POSSESSION of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: AND THE PHILISTINES ENVIED HIM.” (Gen 26:12-14). What was his secret? SEED POWER! You can apply the same principle and have the same result, God is not a respecter of persons (Acts 10:32) TWO GOUPS OF PEOPLE: THE SOWER AND THE EATER “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.” (Pro. 11:23) There are two kinds of Christians, as far as finances are concerned: there are those who give and receive and those who only receive. Those who give don’t lack, and those who lack don’t give. It is only what you have sown that can be multiplied, what you eat or keep can never multiply. God multiplies what you have given and not what you have received, that is why the giver is more blessed than the receiver (Acts 20:35) • The man who scattereth (sows seed) increases – acquires and increases wealth • But the man who withholds more than he is supposed to only becomes poor and poorer. 2 Corinthians 9:10 says, Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food And multiply your seed sown. He gives you power to get wealth (seed), and bread (supplies your need). God will feed you and seed you, but you must know the difference. Anything that does not meet your need is your seed and not your feed. Don’t get the seed and the feed mixed up. Those who eat it all up become poor. He cant multiply an eaten seed; He multiplies seed sown, not seeds eaten. The seed eaten goes out in the drought. God is not moved by a need, He is moved by a seed. He gives you seed to meet your need, but if you eat it up, don’t blame anyone for remaining poor – you’ve eaten your power to get wealth, so no matter how hard you labour, you’ll not get it. SOW BEFORE YOU EAT “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, THAT IT MAY GIVE SEED TO THE SOWER, AND BREAD TO THE EATER” (Isaiah 55: 10) Notice that “seed to the sower” comes first before “bread to the eater.” That means you sow before you eat. When God blesses you financially, pay your tithe first, and then set aside the best seeds (Money) for sowing (giving), and you’ll have your needs met (bread to eat) Equally, if you eat up the best of your harvest (what God has blessed you with), and reserve the withered ones for sowing (giving), you’ll reap a poor harvest. 2 Corinthians 9: 6 – 8, 10 and 11 from the New Living Translation says: “Remember this – a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each make up your own mind as how much you should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others…for God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched so that you can give even more generously…” DON’T OBSERVE THE WIND “He that observeth the wind shall not sow…” (Ecclesiastes 11:4) What does he that observeth the wind mean? It means if you are waiting for everything to get right before you start sowing—the economy, your business to get better, your job, your boss giving you a raise—you will not sow. You must sow by faith, even though it looks like things are getting worse. Sow that seed because God is trying to get you out of that mess you are in. You seed will meet the need, if you don’t sow it, you’ll remain in need. The Philippians sowed to Paul (Phil 4:10-18), because of the seeds they had sown, he told them, “But MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEED according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19). You have no right to claim this verse If you have not done what the Philippians did; you have no right to reap where you have not sown, God cannot be mocked (Gal 6:7); God supplies the needs by multiplying the seeds sown which He gave you. HOW OFTEN SHOULD ONE SOW? Ecclesiastes 11:6 says, “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.” This insinuates that you must sow as often as you can; as long us God gives you seed (the power to get wealth) sow it, so that wealth will continue coming to you, that God’s word may go forward and His covenant be established. Remember, it is through prosperity that the Gospel will spread abroad (Zechariah 1:17) *** Join us every Sunday at 08:45 – 12:30 and Wednesday at 16:45 – 18:45 @ Gift School, along Chipolopolo Road, John Laing.
