SEEK DAILY (NBC) Friday, December 26 Matthew 17:14-20 FAITH LIKE A MUSTARD SEED I assure you, even if you had faith as small as mustard seed you would say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. Matthew 17:20-21, NLT The mustard is a very small seed. It used to be common in Israel. Jesus’ comparison of faith with the mustard seed was profound considering the size of the seed. To us contemporary Christians, the question is; do we even have a faith as small as half the size of the mustard seed? I want to believe Jesus was not talking of faith in terms of the size (big or small) of the seed, but of the quality of the seed. How? The mustard seed has the following characteristics: (1) The seed is small but hard. Thus, Jesus was asking His disciples to have a sound faith in Him. A stubborn faith you would call it! (2) Jesus said the Kingdom is like a mustard seed that grows to become a big tree that shelters birds. He meant that their faith must be a growing faith; not a stagnant one. (3) The mustard seed lasts long. Thus, Jesus was talking about an enduring faith; a faith that stands firm, no matter what. Do you have faith? Is your faith stubborn, active and enduring?
