Dear fellow emerging Leaders, I trust your vote will make me be part of the 20 Semi-finalists. Thank you for your continual support in my quest to become a better and potential youth and local community development worker. This is my vision and passion! I am participating in the Hivos Social Innovation Award 2014, a competition that encourages new solutions for social change, and youth empowerment. I have been qualified for the second stage of the competition. In order to be qualified for the semi-finalist stage, I kindly request you to vote for my idea amongst the 400 entrants from 60 countries worldwide. I am one of the few entrants from post war, and now Ebola striking Liberia. My innovation is titled “Youth Sustainable Waste Management Business Assistant Program”. This Innovation which involves Primary Waste Collection from households, and small businesses, and collecting, buying and reselling of Recyclables has to key goals; first, to provide socioeconomic empowerment opportunities/income for youth from socially, economically and politically marginalized groups between ages 18-25 years and second, to deal with the problem of improper waste disposal and environmental protection in parts of Paynesville city, Liberia. In order words, the project aimed to clean up the community by means of proper waste control methods which will prevent diseases/germs from spreading and at the same time provide income by which beneficiaries can support their livelihoods.
