SELENA!! I was doing an internship outside of Houston when she was killed. So, I saw the reports for many days. Internet was not as easily accessible as it is today. So I did not research her. But once I saw the movie about her, I became a huge huge fan (huh DrQuentin James Chevalier ?) ;) I would show everybody her songs and videos. Not many people know this, but I drove to Corpus Christi (by myself) to see her museum and statue by the beach and her grave. I still remember driving past the cotton fields to get to Corpus Christi (those same fields she drove past many times, Im sure). Selena and I were the same age. So I connected with her. She was a great role model (which was more important to me than how she sang or looked). There are very very few good role models in the music industry). The only thing different about her band...they did not use an accordion like so many other Tejano bands. But her music helped me to see a lot of similarities between her Tejano and my Zydeco culture (dancing, dress, rodeo, cowboy). She made me appreciate my culture soooo much more. I wish she were still here, but her legacy lives on. Enjoy this video!
