SENA SPINELLA IS RUNNING FOR A SPECIAL CAUSE Friends, On April 15th, 2013, I listened to the radio in horror because of the events transpiring at the Boston Marathon. I quickly texted my friend who was there cheering her dad on to make sure she was alright. Like many people, I followed the story in the weeks after and was saddened to hear of all the traumatic injuries people suffered. Learning of a little seven-year-old Irish step dancer named Jane Richard who lost her leg in the bombing was devastating news. Jane’s eight-year-old brother Martin was killed and her mother and father were also injured. I immediately knew I wanted to do something to help the family. I am a 16 year old high school junior at Valley Regional High School where I am a straight A student and a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish National Honor Society. My primary sport is figure skating and I am a USFSA double gold medalist soon to be triple gold medalist once I pass my ice dance tests. I use running as a form of off-ice training for my sport. I have hatched a plan to enter as many half marathons and 5K’s as I can this summer to raise money for the Richard Family Fund through sponsorships. My goal is to run at least 100 miles and have sponsors contribute to each mile that I run in an attempt to ease the burden of medical bills on the Richard family. My parents have agreed to pay for my entrance fees in the various races as their contribution. If you would be interested in helping this cause, I would appreciate donations in any amount per mile.
