SENATOR GREG BALL HONORS 15 STUDENTS AT PUTNAM COUNTY YOUTH AWARDS DINNER (Pictured left to right: Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy, Senator Greg Ball, Youth Honoree Patrick Salerno, Legislator Sam Oliverio and Legislator Ginny Nacerino) Mahopac, N.Y. – 03/29/2014 – On Friday evening, Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) joined the Putnam County Youth Bureau to present New York State Senate Proclamations to fifteen students from across Putnam County at the 29th annual Putnam County Youth Awards Dinner. The Youth Awards Dinner is an annual event designed to recognize outstanding youth from throughout Putnam County. The honorees were chosen by a selection committee for their community service efforts benefitting Putnam residents. “It is an honor for me to join these fifteen young men and women along with their families on this very special night. I would like to congratulate each and every one of the honorees for the hard work they have done for our community. I would like to wish a special congratulations to Patrick and Jenna who are both a part of my student advisory council, we are very proud of both of them,” said Senator Greg Ball. “One thing is clear, all of these young men and women have very bright futures ahead!” The Putnam County Youth Bureau has the primary responsibility of advocating for the youth of Putnam County, according to their website. The Youth Bureau promotes positive youth development based upon the belief that families and extended families are the fundamental sources of care, support and guidance for children and youth. The fifteen students that were honored include: Carli Ceckanowicz of Carmel High School, Kaitlynn Figueroa of Carmel High School, Vincent Garofalo of Mahopac High School, Giana Grandetti of Haldane High School, Maggie McDonnell of Carmel High School, Meghan Mammola of Mahopac High School, Justin Mazzarisi of Putnam Valley High School, Philip Nicklin of Mahopac High School, Shauna Ricketts of Haldane High School, Patrick Salerno of Mahopac High School, Robert Salerno of Mahopac High School, William Salerno of Mahopac High School, Jenna Schweigler of Mahopac High School, Greg Tock of Mahopac High School and Sarah Warren of Haldane High School. Senator Greg Ball has also developed a Student Advisory Council to work on issues that are important to students. Last year, the council focused on combating bullying, texting while driving, social media privacy and minimum wage increases. Students also traveled to Albany and had the ability to introduce, debate and vote on legislation on the New York State Senate Floor. Senator Ball is still accepting highly motivated and determined students to join his advisory council.
