SENDONG MEMORIES- WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER Bob Ocio December 17, 2011 · The Chocolate Rivers became our Homes In 2009, I wrote in New York that WE NEED TO LIVE IN HIGHER GROUNDS as the flood in our place in Tibasak which was already about 100 meters from our house, would finally catch up with us and that it could swell to nearby Barangay Nazareth. Today it did, crossing over to Balulang, Carmen, Iponan, and many other places. ME AND MY KIDS ARE FINE. MY SISTER CHERRY AND HER FAMILY ARE FINE. OUR HOMES ARE fine but the flood soaked everything in the house with mud. Our vehicle almost floated as neck deep water came to us in a span of just over thirty minutes. Thank God were alive. Me and kids AND ABOUT 30-40 PEOPLE on a three storey house of our neighbor. Cherry and family walk /swim on waters to the church. IT WAS TERRIBLE AND IT LOOKED LIKE WAR. THE RIVER FOLLOWED ITS PATH ON THE THE RIVER BANK BELOW US AND ON THE ROAD ABOVE US. Entire families and communities like USA and CalaCala were wiped out. The homes, lands and the people were gone. Many survived, many did not. That was a midnight horror. In the morning, people were walking on the streets with different expressions on their faces. tONIGHT , IT HURTS ME DEEPLY TO SEE PEOPLE, mothers, fathers, children and old, STILL ON THE STREETS
