SEPTEMBER 6 Blessed! “And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,” Matthew 5:1-2 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.. Spiritual mourning might seem irrational at times but who does not mourn when you see the sinful condition of mankind as this world spirals toward destruction. Believers who mourn over their sins are not only Blessed, but are profoundly distressed with the evils of others; the sorrow they feel shall end in their ultimate joy and comfort. When we mourn over our sins it is a demonstration of the fact that the kindness of God is active in our lives. When God’s kindness is not active in our lives it is because we are not dealing with our sins, we are not repentant but we are running from Him. But as we break under the power of God’s love and under the conviction of our sins we begin to mourn, we begin to grieve, we begin to call out to Him, we begin to ask for forgiveness and in that process God begins to draw us near and as He draws us near He begins to comfort us, thus Jesus says; Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Today, as never before, we need to come to the reality of sin. It leads to death and Jesus says; but, except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3 The first step to being cleansed from sin is mourning over it. If we are comfortable living in sin, the end result will be death. One way or the other we are going to end up being sorrowful. Either it will be sorrowful because we never repented and came to Jesus, which will only result in death or we will repent because of the conviction of the Holy Spirit, mourn over our sins which will lead to salvation. As we grow in grace the Holy Spirit will continue to convict us as He teaches and trains us, how to wait on Him, abide in Him and live by the power of the Spirit, and when we find ourselves out of synch as we step out in the flesh the Holy Spirit convicts us and our response to that is that we begin to grieve and to mourn; and in this grieving, and mourning Jesus is going to come closer, strengthening and comforting us in the process. Thereby are we Blessed!
