SEPTEMBER 6th: The 10 commandments are very important in our daily walk with God. We read them and know we should follow each commandment, however a good majority of us don’t follow them 100%. Do you think God intended the 10 commandments to be used when necessary, or puts more weight on one verses the other? For example, a lot of us will uphold the commandment “Thou Shall Not Murder”, but then we never uphold others. In Exodus 20 (vv. 1-17), you will notice that most of the commandments have a short message on what we “shall or shall not do”. However, there is one commandment that provides details and a full description on what, when, who, and why. What: Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. (v. 8 ) When: Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, (vv.9-10a) Who: …neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. (v.10b) Why: For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (v.11) So how do we keep a day each week holy? By RESTING!!!!! We need this day of rest; God needed this day of rest! We all work so hard, we run constantly and I’m sure a good amount of us are tired! Take time to be intentional in your hard working week, to make one day a blessed Sabbath day.
