SERIOUS QUESTION... You all know how when someones house burns down we start seeing requests for stuff and monetary donations? Assuming most people have insurance, why are these things needed? The day of the fire, the Red Cross steps in generally. They will get people into a hotel for a few days and provide immediate necessities like toiletries and such. I talked to a friend who is an insurance agent. He said if its a catastrophic loss the insurance adjuster should be there in a day or two and make arrangements for people to get funds for new clothes and the basics pretty much immediately.... and I rather think most of us have a credit card we can use for a week. And, most policies will pay for temporary accomodations (ie an apartment) while the home is being rebuilt. If all this is true, I dont know why these people are in greater financial need than they were before. It seems to me what they would need is a shoulder to cry on, maybe some logistical help because schedules will be different, and for friends and relatives to help them replace the irreplaceables... you know, pictures from days before Facebook, stuff from Grannys place etc. But why do they need money? If I have it all wrong, please tell me, because I really am confused.
