SEVEN YEARS PAST JUBILEE Today is just but any normal day. Some on the edge of being happy. But others, not quite so. To some school pupils;a wonderful day to celebrate or get their schools recognised. To some military and national security service personnel, a day to showcase a balance pride in national service, individual bravery, endurance and discipline. And even a circus parade and ammo display. To some top men; a day to enjoy as they have a chance to bounce their clean-dirty hands on national coffers. Well! If you are a Ghanaian, you certainly should guess this day right. Independence Day! The 6th March, 2014 With a golden jubilee seven years ago, means we are matured enough to stand on our own two sticks if we were human. But its somewhat suprising to know even with capable legs,we prefer the seat meant for the cripple. Since the cradle of the Ghanaian civilization, through to when Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his alliance with the others regained our pride in national freedom and the hope for self-reliance,its certainly amazing where we stand now. Comparing with some countries we started with, seems to be a childs play in sand. We compare and we all do ask; but with no offence, the less literate of men even does: what is wrong with us? Perhaps! Our rich resources we sing about arent enough. Or it could be that our man-power is not proportional to what we have. Even so, we have the brains of humans in other countries around the world alike. Certainly! Theres something wrong somewhere. Or is it plain black-mentality. If it is,then its a plague. A one that has ridden many African nations of success from their own resources of which Ghana is not exempted. A plague that can make the person next to you yearn to even sell you for what he can get. Wu yonku da ne wu da (literally meaning, your neighbours abode is your place of rest too). If we dont see through this adage and ice it with the saying, theres no place like home, then doom is the right word to spell. Its time we realize the need for national cohesion and develop a sense of pride to build what is ours;invest in what is ours and make use of what we make. Theres no heck in wanting and taking assisstance from outside But it is when its always a one way train ride. We never give back. Even the Holy Books says there is more in giving than in recieving. I,myself Im startled by the question that lingers on my mind. What happens to what we recieve? Thats where a new story comes in. The rich continues in riches as the poor are extra strained with taxes, galloping prices of naturally used commodities and bills to pay and hence becoming efficiently poor. Not that the men or should I say some men in suit and tie havent done a good-enough job in administration, but theres this inevitable question of something being wrong. An interesting event that happens each year was still on-going. The independence parade at the independence spuare and even those with less of a chance to be there can join the sub-parade in the localities or even join in the celebration on t.v. The scorching sun this particular day every year is amazing. But what interest me the most is why it changed this year. There is rain instead. May be God wants us to take notice of certain irregularities in our system,as by now, we should be able to rely on ourselves Its an uncertain speculative opinion of which I am entitled to one though. Or its a sign we need to rise up to do what needs to be done and done right. It might even mean our better years ahead. Well! Lets pray its the latter. Why it rained this day, this year; Im certainly baffled.
