SEVERE WEATHER FLOODS TO NORTHEAST AREA PENN, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, CONN, MA Enlarge Although Andrea is no longer tropical, its moisture will continue to plague northern New England this morning. As of 5 a.m., the remnants of Andrea were centered near 40.9 N and 72.5 W, or near Hampton Bays, N.Y., and 130 miles west-southwest of Nantucket, Mass. Andrea`s top sustained winds remained at 45 mph as it moves northeast at 35 mph. Its minimum central pressure climbed to 998 mb, or 29.47 inches of mercury. Heavy rain will slowly subside in Maine by midday as Andrea`s remnants glide into Canada. Another inch will soak coastal Maine before the system departs. Flood and Flash Flood Watches remain in effect from Massachusetts to coastal Maine, including Boston, Manchester, N.H., and Bangor, Maine, but will likely be dropped later this morning. Andrea and its remnants dropped 1.99 inches on an Earth Networks station in New London, Conn., 1.48 inches on an Earth Networks station in Seekonk, Mass., and 1.44 inches in South Thomaston, Maine today. Remember if you come across a flooded roadway, it`s best to "Turn Around, Don`t Drown." Water is typically deeper than it appears. Former Tropical Storm Andrea serves as an excellent reminder that the hurricane season began on June 1. Put together a hurricane preparedness kit with food, water, batteries, and blankets, and discuss with your family multiple evacuation routes. Traditionally, June is a quiet month in the Atlantic tropics. A named storm typically forms in one out of every two years. This has occurred in all but one of the past five years.
