SEVERE WEATHER WARNING ISSUED, VERY HEAVY RAIN, SEVERE STORMS, MORE DAMAGING WINDS AHEAD [[[PLEASE SHARE]]] We have an extremely interesting weather scenario developing later this afternoon and continuing for tomorrow and Friday. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a SEVERE WEATHER WARNING at 10:38am this morning for Damaging Winds and Heavy Rainfall. Please Note: A Severe Weather Warning is a DIFFERENT warning to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. A Severe Weather Warning is issued when severe weather is expected to occur, but does not necessarily have to be associated with thunderstorms. A trough and strong low pressure system are expected to affect the local region slowly over the next 48 hours. This will cause VERY HEAVY RAINFALL and SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. RAINFALL TOTALS OF 200 TO 300 MM ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS. WITH FALLS POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 500 MM IN SOME AREAS. THIS HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO START THIS AFTERNOON OR TONIGHT. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that: Thunderstorms, some of which are likely to be severe, and rain areas will develop during today over central Queensland and become more widespread during tonight and Thursday, with locally heavy to very heavy falls of rain expected. 24 hour totals in excess of 250mm are possible. Damaging wind gusts of around 110 km/h are also expected with thunderstorms. There is a HIGH CHANCE of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS occurring today and tomorrow around the local district. MOST THUNDERSTORMS WILL PRODUCE DAMAGING TO DESTRUCTIVE WINDS EXCEEDING 110+ KM/H. The Bureau of Meteorology has also advised me that: Heaviest rainfall is expected to develop from thunderstorms which are likely to be also accompanied by strong and gusty, and possibly destructive winds exceeding 125 km/h. A FLOOD WATCH IS ALSO CURRENT for Central Queensland, with creek and river flooding expected over the next few days.
