SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for HEAVY RAINFALL and ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES For people in parts of the Southeast Coast Forecast District. Issued at 11:27 am Friday, 23 January 2015. Synoptic Situation: Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected to continue for the next few hours. Currently, the heaviest rain has eased around the Brisbane area and the more significant falls are occurring further south, including the Gold Coast and adjacent inland, with recent hourly falls peaking around 40mm. The heavy rain may combine with todays high tide around midday to cause some inundation of vulnerable coastal areas. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Beenleigh, Caboolture and Caloundra. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Capricornia, and northern Southeast Coast districts. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
