SHADE UPDATE: ok, got the vet out (he services globe derby Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, with no call out fee, just take your horse to the track), he checked out shade, confirmed my diagnosis of a torn/strained stifle (it pays to know first aid), gave me a heap of bute sachets, all for $48! if minimal improvement by next Tuesday, he will come to shade and do xrays (which I can pay off in instalments). BUT! after shade ate his dinner with the bute in it, I went to check on him before leaving, he heard me say hey big fella you feeling better?, staggered very drunkenly over to me, complete with willie out and bottom lip drooping, weight barring on his sore leg (YAY! means no break), put his forehead on my chest, then gave me a very gently nose to mouth boop (how I normally kiss his big soft nose, even though he isnt the most affectionate horse, so it was a big surprise), then staggered back to his hay net. I took this sudden and surprising show of affection as a big thankyou :) RJ UPDATE: after giving is foot a good clean out, and spraying this blue stuff on it (after explaining that his feet are pretty bad as I was waiting for his sore to heal before reshoeing), that he is now cleared to be reshod and brought back into work YAY! so guess whose going to the show instead of Shade? guess who now has to go in the hacking classes and not the standy ring...yup! RJ your up dude! (just dont hurt yaself please! ive had 3 sickness/injuries, thats it! no more!) only cost me $20 something for the can of spray too, so am really happy and relieved! Dr Lucas, you are awesome! thank you so very much for coming to see my boys.
