SHADOWS MAKE YOU WHOLE Along our travels, a woman introduced me to India Arie’s song, Break The Shell. If you haven’t heard it yet, check it out! The opening lyrics to the song are: I met a prophet, dark as the night. She could see into my soul. Said she’d been watching and had some advice. She said “Shadows make you whole. A life without pain is a wolf in sheep clothes. Cause if you listen to the lessons that it holds, you’ll find the gold.” My shadows used to scare me, haunt me, embarrass me – so I ran. I ran so fast that I used my creativity to avoid life. It was draining. Clint and I signed up for a 10-day meditation retreat called Vipassana in New Zealand. It was time to surrender, to accept and face our shadows. The journey of sitting in silence with my eyes closed for 10 consecutive days and 10 hours/day was intense. My buried pain hurt more than my initial pain as I re-revealed it all – anger, judgment, sadness, happiness, pain – so much surfaced. It hurt, it hurt bad. But to run would have been my old ways – to escape. I committed to going through and not around. I committed to stillness. The results - I feel whole. I feel fulfilled. I accept all of me. Nobody likes to feel pain, but sometimes pain helps you heal. And there is some peace in knowing that. Now I notice my shadow, I even dance and laugh with it. Having a shadow means you are ALIVE! YOU are substantial, your shadow is nothingness. youtu.be/963CiHud3o8
