SHALOM COMRADES. RE: EBK ACCREDITATION. The following is the Outcome of the meeting between the VC, DVC & Registrar Academic, DSA, Dean SET and Departmental Chairs. EBK can only accredit an institution if it complies with the standards in the following areas; 1. Curriculum. 2. Equipment’s. 3. Staff. On Curriculum, everything is streamlined and approved to standard, as a matter of fact Eng. Nzomo and Eng. Okaka are going to EBK today 28/8/14 and 29/8/2014, to get further advice and guidance. Our Curriculum is at EBK being evaluated and any additional information is being provided. Now the remaining were resolved as follows; 1. EQUIPMENTS & LABOURATORIES. The VC approved construction and equipping of 31 Engineering Laboratories on top of what we currently have. Among the 31 Labs are as follows; • MECHANICAL & MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT LAB’S. A. Fluids Mechanics Laboratory. B. Thermodynamics Laboratory. C. Materials testing Laboratory. D. Mechanics of Machines Laboratory. E. Metrology Laboratory. • ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS DEPARTMENT LAB’S. A. Control Instrumentation Laboratory. B. Communication Laboratory. C. Analogue & Digital Laboratory. D. Electrical Machines Laboratory. E. Micro Computer Laboratory. F. Robotics Laboratory. G. Power Electronics Laboratory. H. Software & additional Multi-Media Laboratory. I. Biomedical Engineering Laboratory. • CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT LAB’S. A. Water Quality Laboratory. B. Material & Structural Masonry Workshop. C. Civil Eng. Soil Mechanics Laboratory. D. Road Materials Equipment’s & Asphalt testing Laboratory. E. Surveying Equipment Laboratory. F. Hydraulics Mechanics Laboratory. G. Design Studio Laboratory. There are three blocks being put up which will house these Laboratories. School has had an Executive meeting and approved Structural design of the buildings and construction will begin once the tendering is completed. The VC has mandated the DVC Finance to fast track the procurement process of the equipment’s and oversee the tendering process of the construction to ensure all this is done in the shortest time possible. 2. STAFF. It is understood that no University has enough Lecturers and the Board has allowed part-timing by professional Engineers across our institutions. However, the University admits that our school has been under-staffed and the few Lecturers we have, most of them are not registered. Consequently, the VC has requested the School to advertise vacancies for Lecturers, to begin with, Page 52 of Daily Nation, 13/8/14 and Page 39 of Daily Nation, 25/8/14, the school ran an advert on Qualified Lecturers to apply. I can confirm, there about next week the University would be evaluating the Applications for recruitment. More so, advertisement for qualified Technicians has been done and applications have been forwarded to the Chairs of Departments to ascertain their suitability. Additionally, the University has resorted to carry out Staff development program, which will help those who have not been registered, be registered. While we are doing this, there are universities being headed by Professional whose programs have not accredited e.g TUK, TUM, MMUST, Dedan Kimathi, MMU among others and one like like UoN lost accreditation in Bio Systems Engineering and also their School of Law, comparably with KU’s which is registered. (Someone can goggle that and confirm) Accreditation is a process but am sure we shall reach there, now that this has being intense and of public interest. Comrades that is all that came out of the meeting. I encourage each one of us to remain steadfast in all what we do. Our work is to ensure that the above is implemented in due time and not only mere rhetoric’s. As such, am organizing a meeting with the VC and Students so that you may here from the horse’s mouth and to ascertain her commitment to see our programmes validated and accredited. As I said before, we are together in this journey, till the end of it. Today KUSA President and other Executive members will be meeting the VC in regards to our matter. As we tirelessly work on this, we request for your calmness and sobriety. WeAreOne!!! Kind Regards, Stephen Mwadime. CONGRESSMAN SET. CC: VC DVC Academic Dean SET Lone Felix Kotondeh DanMark
