SHARING.... What is the difference among D1/D2/D3/D4S/R/C HID bulbs What is the difference among HID bulbs D1S, D1R, D1C, D2S, D2R, D2C, D3S, D3R, D3C, D4S, D4R and D4C? We take D2 series as sample to explain the different among S, R and C first: D2S = Discharge second generation Shielded -- bulbs are specifically designed for projector headlamps (notice no paint). Projection headlamps contain a shade positioned between the lens and reflector. Light projection from the top edge of the shade provides the low beam cut off, and facilitates a high beam of light without glare. D2R = D2 bulb for Reflectors (discharge second generation reflection, there is a ceramic painted part of the bulb for light control) Reflector headlamps contain a light source, such as an arc, positioned near the focus of a parabolic reflector, which helps reflect the glare caused by vehicle headlights in oncoming traffic. Feature difference between D2S and D2R bulbs: at the bulb base for fitment reasons. The two fitment notches on the D2S are spaced nearly twice as far apart to fit into the projector headlamp configuration. D2R notches are spaced more closely to fit into reflector headlamps. D2C = D2 aftermarket bulb, C generally standing for colored (6000K and up) but it also means the base has notches to fit in both R and S housings. What is the difference among D1/D2/D3/D4S/R/C HID bulbs Difference conclusions of D1S, D1R, D1C, D2S, D2R, D2C, D3S, D3R, D3C, D4S, D4R and D4C hid bulbs: 1, S stands for “Shielded”, R stands for “Reflection” or “Reflector”, C standard for “colors” or “colored”. 2, The “C” type based-bulb is an ideal replacement of any OEM style bulb. 3, D1 and D3 have an igniter built into the base, whereas D2 and D4 rely on the igniter inside of its accompanied ballast. 4,The biggest difference between the D1/D2 and D3/D4 bulbs is that D3 and D4 bulbs are NON mercury versions of D1s and D2s and require less energy to turn on, its said theyll need new ballasts to be used. 5. You CANNOT replace a D3 bulb with a D1 bulb or replace a D4 bulb with a D2 bulb! They will physically fit, but the bulb, ballast or both will be damaged when you turn it on.
