SHARING... from a Special Mom Thought some people would like to read. Being a special needs parent can be so tough sometimes and some people just can turn your day completely upside down. Heres a story for you. We were up at the hospital for an upper GI for Marksen, our 5 year old son with severe autism. We were in the very crowded waiting room, where Marksen was having a good morning, he was making his very usual sounds( hes nonverbal and hums a lot) This ugly older lady kept shooting us the most horrible looks every time Marksen made a noise. I kept shooting her looks back like, dont keep looking at my boy. After about 15 minutes of this I finally lost my temper, I yelled at her and said my son has autism so you can stop staring at us she pretended like she didnt hear me and then I raised my voice even louder adding hey lady my son has Autism, stop looking at him! Everyone in the room was looking, one lady was smiling in our direction, like she was glad I spoke up. Her looks continued, just more sporadic. I got up and went to the lady at the registration desk and I said it loud enough for everyone to hear me that lady kept staring at our autistic son, maybe you could take her back so shell stop? The lady at registration of course apologize to us and she took us back instead. I of course opened my mouth once more before she took us back, I said thank you for making us feel so uncomfortable! I was burning. My husband thinks I over reacted, and I made a scene. I think some people truly deserve to be told off, and that lady was most certainly one of them!
