SHARK ATTACK, NEAR MISS ... This is what Ive recently seen this video being reposted as on several social media outlets by different users. This video title alone spreads the ignorance on the issue at hand. The fear that people instill onto others is leading these essential and magnificent creatures to extinction. In this video, we clearly see the hammerhead shark hunting its favored prey, a stingray. A previous observation from the Bimini Shark Lab suggests that the hammer (actually called the cephalofoil) is used in a thrashing manner to immobilize and pin its prey. At no point did the shark show interest in chasing the people in the water. By the means of education I hope to encourage others to think for themselves and learn the facts, before they unknowingly spread the wrong message portrayed by the fear or the ignorance of other people.
