SHE Foundation honors Outstanding Teachers of Sorsogon By: Bennie A. Recebido SORSOGON CITY, August 25 (PIA) – Dr. Salvador H. Escudero III (SHE) Foundation honored six (6) teachers – three from the elementary and three from the secondary level – who made it to the Top Three during the recently concluded Search for Outstanding Teachers of Sorsogon (SOTS). During the Awarding Ceremony on August 14, 2014 held at the Sorsogon State College, this city, Mrs. Cristina D. Floralde of Barcelona Central School (elementary) in Barcelona town and Mrs. Cynthia P. Jardiolin of Sorsogon National High School (secondary) in Sorsogon City trounced six (6) other contenders making it to the top and adjudged as Outstanding Teachers of Sorsogon. Floralde who made the edge among the other contenders by showing exemplified commitment by serving pupils to the best of her ability is a Master Teacher II who is in the field for 35 years while Jardiolin is a Master Teacher I who has been teaching for 27 years. According to Jardiolin, teaching and learning would never take place if a teacher doesn’t have the knock for good communication skills. The two other winners for the elementary level are Mrs. Lilibeth E. Samuya of Casiguran Central School in Casiguran town who ranked second and Mrs. Eden E. Pabon of Coron-coron Elementary School in Matnog town who garnered the third place. For the secondary level, Mrs. Veronica B. Gallanosa of Bulusan National High School in Bulusan town ranked second and Mrs. Christy Bianca G. Loberia of Gallanosa National High School in the municipality of Bulusan ranked third. Top 1 brought home a trophy and P25,000.00 cash; Top 2 received a trophy and P15,000.00 cash; while the Top 3 got trophy and P10,000.00 cash for their prize. The nominees were evaluated through the following criteria: personal qualities and character (10%); instructional competence and teaching effectiveness (70%); and community involvement (20%). The winners shall be recommended for the prestigious nationwide Search for Outstanding Teachers sponsored by Metrobank Foundation, Inc. Evaluators for the SOTS were chaired by Dr. Rosa D. Anonat, a Metrobank Foundation awardee. The members are: Modesto Detera Presiden; Dr. Ruby Abundabar, DepEd Sorsogon Province Division; Dr. Socorro de la Rosa DepEd Sorsogon City Division Superintendent; Dr. Helen Lara representing the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP); Mr. Edgar C. Balasta, President of the Rotary Club of Metro Sorsogon; and Mr. Michael B. Sulit, representing SHE Foundation. According to Sorsogon 2nd District Representative Evelina “Nanay” Escudero and wife of the late Dr. Salvador H. Escudero III, this is the first time that SHE Foundation recognized through a search like this the exemplary performance of the educators of Sorsogon. “I believe that recognizing our outstanding teachers will inspire countless educators in the province of Sorsogon thus help strengthen the quality of education in the province vis-à-vis with other education programs of the national and local government,” said Escudero who is also fondly called as Nanay Evie.
