SHOFAR DEVOTIONAL: The irony in the story of the prodigal son[Luke 15]is that the elder son was more prodigal than his errant brother. The elder sons attitude reveals a traversity in our christian walk; ignorance concerning the inheritance. Why would he whine over a fatted calf killed for his brother when the solution was as simple as killing fatted calf for himself and having a jolly good feast? Well, the issue is in the 29th verse. The dear boy was legal. His eyes were set on how much he had served, and how he had never transgressed. He forgot that all the father had belonged to him; the father himself was his portion and inheritance. Child of God,Gods first place of relationship with him has never been service but rather the understanding that you are his and he is yours and that all he has is yours. This is where communion starts from.
