SHOFARDEVOTION 20/01/2015 THE LIFE OF PRAYER [Luke 18:1]; And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought to pray and not to faint. The secret in the parable was that men ought to always pray and not faint(be discouraged; give up.) The place of not fainting is not one where you go back to God over and over again on the same issue. The widow did this because she was dealing with a wicked judge. But in the same chapter, Christ speaks of God as one who answers speedily. So, why does he speak of not fainting where the answer comes speedily? Here is the secret. He was not talking about prayer as an occasion in the presence of God for the addressing of a need. He meant prayer as a life beyond your needs. We dont get into the presence of God to get what we want and then exist. God is not as the judge who answered merely to get the woman off his case. He met your need speedily so that your time in the presence is spent on better things. He wants you twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty five days a year. He is not after simply moments of prayer; he is after a life of prayer.
