SHORT STORY WITH A MORAL: At the end of a wedding the brides mum handed her a newly opened bank savings passbook with #100,000 deposited in it and said: My dear daughter, take this passbook. Keep it as a record of your married life. Whenever something happy and memorable happens in your new life, put some money in and write down what its about. The more memorable the event, the more money you should deposit. Do it with your husband so that when you look back after many years, you will know how much happiness youve both shared. She shared this with him after getting home. The couple thought it was a great idea and couldnt wait to make deposits! This is what the passbook looked like after a while: 7 Feb: #10,000 - his first birthday celebration after marriage 1 Mar: #30,000 - she gets a salary raise 20 Mar: #20,000 - vacation 15 Apr: #200,000 - Shes pregnant! 1 Jun: #100,000 - He gets the big promotion and so on... However, as the years went by they began fighting and arguing over trivial things. They didnt talk much and regretted their marriage, there was no more love. One day she talked to her Mother. Mom, we cant stand it anymore. We have decided to divorce. I cant imagine how I decided to marry this guy! Her mother replied, Sure, thats no big deal. Just do whatever you want if you really cant stand it, but before that, do one thing. Remember the savings passbook I gave you? Take out all money and spend it first. So she went to the bank and while waiting in queue she took a look at the passbook record; the more she looked, the more the good memories filled her eyes with tears so she turned around and went home. When she got home, she handed the passbook to her hubby and asked him to spend the money before getting divorced; but when he went through the book at the bank, the same thing happened to him and he just couldnt do it too, that was when he got a better idea! When he returned the passbook to her that evening, she looked in and found out he had made a new deposit - #500,000: This is the day I realized how much I really love you, how much happiness you have brought me and how much of a fool I would be to give you up and throw so many good memories away. And they hugged and cried and put the passbook back into a safe place. Love and marriage are not games. Its not easy but its beautiful. You will fight and argue, this is normal because the both of you came from different backgrounds and homes so you cannot expect that everything you say will be accepted by your spouse without their opinion being tendered first, but before you give up, think back to the good times and to what brought you together in the first place.
