SHORT STRAND UPDATE: Just off the phone with the PSNI and Belfast City Councils Emergency Co-ordination Officer and due to a suspect pipe bomb homes have had to evacuated at Pottingers Quay Apartments. First of all it is an absolute disgrace that families have been put in such reckless danger by people who clearly have no regard for the safety of the people living there or the scores of babies and toddlers who attend the Waterbabies Daycare Centre on the ground floor. I am pressing both the PSNI and BCC to ascertain how long this operation will go on for and also what measures will be put in place to support residents effected. As always I will post all that info here and would appreciate your help in spreading the word. In the meantime I know most people have gone to stay with family nearby but I have spoken with Willy Ward and the upstairs of the Strand Bar is open for tea and to give people somewhere to go. I know the community in the Strand will be disgusted by this tonight and will reject totally the stupid and unwanted actions of all those responsible. Take care. N
