SHOULD UNIVERSITIES BAN POLITICAL ACTIVITIES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CAMPUSES???? As the election date is getting closer, the catholic University of Malawi has suspended all political and public activities at there campus The memo which was released yesterday on 21 august 2013 and read to the hundreds of students and staff members who attended the General assembly says.. a) The university as a private church owned institution does not participate in partisan political activities. Therefore , though evry student has freedom of association, the formation of campus based political party branches and the holding or hosting of political meetings/rallies on University premises is however not permissible. b) Students are not allowed to keep, distribute or put on clothes/insignia within University premises c) All political activities including, but not limited to, campaign or distribution of campaign or party materials must be done outside the university,reads part of the memo at Catholic University. #aluta#
