SHS Names Steering Committee For NEASC Accreditation CLAREMONT, NH--Principal Patricia Barry of Stevens High School has announced the names of the Steering Committee members who will direct Steven’s High Schools efforts throughout its self-study and the accreditation by the Committee on Public Secondary Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The Steering Committee will be co-chaired by Karen Cullison who is an English teacher, as well as the NHS and Yearbook Advisor and tennis coach, and Vessilina Alteva, who is a Science teacher. Both women are well-respected and accomplished and were chosen for their ability to work well with their colleagues and get things done in a timely manner, said Barry The other members of the Committee are: Alisha Harvey-Smith - President of Sugar River Valley Community College, Alex Scott - Claremont Police Chief and parent, Richard Seaman - School Board Chair and parent, April Woodman - Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and parent, Cori LeClair - School Improvement Coordinator, Patricia Barr - Principal, Chris Beeso - Assistant Principal, and Rebecca Menard as the SHS student representative. NEASC membership requires that a school undergo a self-study and formal evaluation at least once every 10 years. The Steering Committees responsibilities will include coordinating a schedule of events for the schools self-study, collecting reports from various subcommittees, and making necessary preparations for the evaluation committee’s visit. According to Barry, This year-long self-study will require us to do a forensic assessment of our teaching and learning practices and analyze how we support and live those practices every day. The focus of the next 12 months will be to determine the extent to which our programs and services carry out Stevens High Schools identified core values and beliefs and whether we meet the Committee on Public Secondary Schools Standards for Accreditation. Stevens High School was last accredited in 2006 and has maintained continued accreditation since it was awarded NEASC membership in 1993; however, it is currently on Probationary Status. The next accreditation by a Committee on Public Secondary Schools visiting committee will be conducted in either the Spring or Fall of 2016.
