SIALKOT Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Saturday announced another deadline for elimination of electricity loadshedding in the country, saying that the crisis will end till 2017. Mr Asif said the government had chalked out a comprehensive plan in this regard. He disclosed this while addressing a laptop-distribution ceremony at Government College Women University Sialkot. He said, “We are trying our level best to end loadshedding. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself is monitoring the programme.” He reiterated that before 2018 general election, his government would be capable of ending loadshedding. He also congratulated the students for getting laptops, and said, “You are the future of the country so you have to work hard for the prosperity of the country.” He stressed a need for changing social behaviours, and said, “We should adopt tolerance because education taught us to adopt tolerance.” He said that education was the only way to fight terrorism. “As politicians,” he said, “we level allegations on each other while it is a sin to level allegations on anybody.” He added, “I am strong believer of empowerment of women. If a woman economically empowered, the society would grow automatically.” He said that it was necessary for a nation to become economically sovereign for making progress and prosperity. He said that investing in the education sector was actually investing for the national prosperity. He said that he had worked out a plan to expand the Government College Women University Sialkot like modern universities of the world. Sialkot District Jail would soon be shifted to other place and around six-acre land of jail would be given to GCWUS, he added. He said that his government also established Khawaja Safdar Medication college, and a proposal to set up a university at Sialkot with co-education was also in the pipeline. He stressed a need for promotion of quality education, urging the teachers and parents to focus on the character building of their children enabling them to serve the nation in a better way. He said children are the future of the nation. He said that the provision of laptops to brilliant students was the acknowledgment of their natural educational abilities by the Punjab government. He added that the laptops distribution was a step towards the goal of excellence and their lucid future. Khawaja Asif said that the promulgation of uniform education system for everyone across the country was the demand of the day and the government was actively focusing on it. He said that educational upgradation is vital for social development and national prosperity. Meanwhile, he distributed 767 laptops to students. Later, he also attended the annual prize distribution ceremony of Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot. KSMCS Principal Dr Zafar Chaudhary was also present on this occasion. Addressing the participants, he said that students are the future of the country and the coming generations would have to defend the ideological and geographical boundaries of the country by making it Pakistan as envisaged by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
