SIGHTING REPORT OF ONE OF THE RECENTLY TAGGED INISHOWEN - TopicsExpress

SIGHTING REPORT OF ONE OF THE RECENTLY TAGGED INISHOWEN BUZZARDS. On 24 June this year, we featured an article here on the Wild Inishowen page about the first buzzards ever to be tagged in Inishowen. It is with tremendous excitement that I am able to report and confirm my own sighting of one of these tagged birds! The buzzard ringing programme in June was the beginning of a Joint Project between the Northern Ireland Raptor Study Group (NIRSG) and the Inishowen Raptor Study Group. It was the first ever tagging of buzzards in Co. Donegal. Eight young buzzards were ringed and tagged under licence on the Inishowen Peninsula. Last Wednesday, 3rd September, myself and my Birding Buddie Lindsay Hodges seen and heard 3 buzzards in flight in the Castlerock area, On closer study, I noticed one of these birds was tagged and i was able to get some record shot photographs. Having then sent on the information to the NIRSG, I was thrilled to hear back today from Dr Eimear Rooney, their Raptor Officer, who confirmed that the bird myself and Lindsay seen was indeed one of the Buzzard chicks tagged in Inishowen in June. The photographs below show my record shots of the bird in the Castlerock area along with a Photograph that Eimear Rooney sent me showing this specific buzzard being tagged in Inishowen. Please report any future sightings to Dr. Eimear Rooney Raptor Officer NI Northern Ireland Raptor Study Group Mob: +7743068931 Dermot Mc Laughlin, Chairman of Wild Inishowen, to [email protected] Mobile +877412044 all sightings and reports will then be passed directly onto the Northern Ireland Irish Raptor Study Group .
