SIGHTINGS UPDATE | 30.01.2014 Find of the day was a juvenile Ivory Gull in Co Kerry; elsewhere in Ireland, the Forsters Tern remained in Co Mayo alongside the King Eider and Black Duck, while a White-billed Diver was new in Aberdeenshire. After flying off for a couple of hours, the Pacific Diver was back on its favoured lough in Co Tyrone this afternoon. Otherwise it was, as youd expect for late January, pretty stagnant: the American Coot, Buff-bellied Pipit, two Humes Leaf Warblers, Lesser Yellowlegs, Bonapartes Gull and various Two-barred and Parrot Crossbills all lingered at their respective sites. Iceland boasted a dead American Purple Gallinule as well as the continuing Lincolns Sparrow and Hooded Merganser, giving hope that another mid-winter mega may yet be found lurking. Looking at the weather forecast for the weekend, it seems any big rarity is likely to come from the west - how about a Canvasback or Redhead?
