SIGN THIS! Join us in supporting the National Park Service’s (NPS) proposal to prohibit inhumane and unsporting hunting and trapping activities in national preserves across Alaska. These irresponsible practices show little regard for ecosystem health or animal welfare. Some of these practices were recently authorized by the Alaska Board of Game (ABG), an appointed panel with a long history of ignoring NPS’s wildlife management recommendations in favor of exploitation. The proposed rule would: • Prohibit historically illegal practices recently approved by ABG, including using artificial light to draw bears and cubs from their dens to be killed, baiting brown bears, and killing wolves and coyotes during the denning season; • Ban, in accordance with NPS policies, killing native predators to artificially enhance wild game populations; and • Potentially prohibit the use of dogs (“hounding”) and bait to capture and kill black bears. By implementing the proposed rule, NPS will protect native predators on federal lands in Alaska, which are to be shared and enjoyed by all Americans. Please speak up for wildlife and urge NPS to finalize this rule, including a prohibition against hounding and baiting of black bears on NPS-managed lands in Alaska. A quick note to Dr. Bert Frost, Regional Director, National Park Service Alaska, will help protect our wildlife. We have prepared a template email for you to send. If you prefer, you can personalize this copy to make it more effective. Please ensure that you are polite at all times. Comments must be submitted by February 15.
