SIGN UP FOR UPCOMING WEBINAR! “Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and Strategic Tourism Development Planning” Webinar hosted by: Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Date: Wednesday 28 May, 2014 Time: 4:00 pm (CET), 9:00 pm (Bangkok), 4:00 pm (Nairobi), 10:00 am (Washington, DC) Duration: 1 Hour Participation: Free, based on first-come-first serve basis About Ms. Željka Škaričić, Specialist in Coastal Zone Management and Director of Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre PAP/RAC- Ms. Željka Škaričić is a specialist in coastal zone management with a long working experience at PAP/RAC, which is one of the Regional Activities Centres (RACs) of the UNEP’s Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP). She started her career as Programme Officer to assume, in 2011, the post of the PAP/RAC Director. She coordinated several large Mediterranean projects dealing with Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) e.g. MAP CAMPs (Coastal Area Management Programmes) in Algeria and Morocco, EU LIFE-Third Countries project “Destinations” dealing with coastal tourism in the Maghreb countries, EU FP-7 project PEGASO dealing with coastal governance issues, and many more. As Programme Officer she actively participated in the process of consultation and negotiation of the ICZM Protocol of the Barcelona Convention, a unique document in the world dealing with such a complex issue as the ICZM. Today, in her role of PAP/RAC Director, she is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Protocol and the related Action Plan adopted by the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention (21 Mediterranean States and the European Union) at their ministerial conference in 2012. About the Webinar The objective of the webinar is to discuss UNEP’s Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) and the Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC), as an example of ICZM best practices, as well as provide information on the ICZM Protocol for the Mediterranean, demonstrating the commitment of participating countries and organizations . The importance of coastal tourism will also be highlighted together with an overview of its major impacts on coastal resources and coastal population. Participants will also learn of the relevance of approaches followed and tools used in ICZM for the strategic planning of tourism development, in particular the application of the carrying capacity assessment (CCA) method. A concrete example of a multi-sectoral approach applied to a case of tourism development will be presented. This webinar is designed for National Cleaner Production Centers (NCPCs) interested in reinforcing their technical capacity in sustainable tourism, for destination development managers, and sustainable tourism professionals.
